Zomer op komst? Zo bescherm je je kindje tegen de zon

Summer is on the way? Here’s how to protect your child from the sun

Summer is on its way! Time for ice cream, water fun, and spending time outdoors. But did you know that young children are extra sensitive to sunlight and UV radiation? In this blog, we share practical tips to protect your baby or child from the sun, so you can enjoy the beautiful weather together carefree.

Why sun protection is so important for babies and children

Children’s skin and eyes are still developing. Their skin burns more quickly, and their eyes let more UV radiation through. Without proper protection, they can suffer from sunburn, overheating, or eye irritation – and of course, we want to prevent that!

Five tips for a carefree summer day with your little one

☀️ 1. Choose shade whenever possible

Avoid direct sunlight between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Seek out the shade, bring a parasol, or relax under a tree.

👓 2. Use sunglasses with UV400 protection

Good sunglasses protect your little one’s sensitive eyes from harmful UV radiation. Children’s eyes let more UV through and are particularly vulnerable. That’s why it’s best to choose sunglasses with a UV400 filter and CE Category 3 lenses, such as those from Maesy. This way, they can safely enjoy being outdoors – even on sunny days with light cloud cover.

👒 Extra tip: You can also combine sunglasses with a lightweight hat, especially if your little one will be in the sun for a long time. This provides extra protection for their face too.

🧴 3. Apply sunscreen on time

Use sunscreen specially developed for babies or children, preferably with at least SPF 30. Apply it generously before you go outside, and reapply every two hours – especially after swimming or sweating.

✨ We’re fans of the natural sunscreen from Petit & Jolie: gentle on the skin, free from harmful substances, and ideal for the very youngest children.

✨ Even more convenient on the go? The refillable sunscreen brush from Amici Cosmetics is perfect for quick, mess-free reapplication – ideal for busy days in the sun.

👶 4. Watch out for overheating

Keep your little one cool with lightweight clothing, plenty of water, and rest breaks in the shade. Sunglasses also help prevent tired, irritated eyes.

👜 5. Don’t forget your summer essentials

What should you bring on a hot day? Think sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a water bottle, wet wipes, and something to create shade.
